Cheap cocktails in Ko Samui
Thailand
Ko Samui is a big island with many beaches and the main accommodation is your standard big resort. Nothing fancy there and you can safely skip it if you’re on a schedule. I can’t say I was very motivated to do much visiting either. The hostel I stayed in, called The Lounge in Bo Phut, was a great place to socialize. The Fisherman’s Village, not far from there, makes for a nice evening out wit... read more »

Island Hopping in the Andaman Sea
Thailand
Unlike most tourists, I arrived in Thailand by boat! It’s a short (but expensive: 1200B) ride from Langkawi to Ko Lipe, the first island in my 10 days island hopping trip in the Andaman Sea. Ko Lipe is small with two main beaches where resorts line up. None of them are the classical tourist factory but rather small, ranging from very basic to very good. The typical accommodation is a bungalow... read more »

Looking for a camera? Get the Canon S100
I find having a good camera while traveling is something you cannot look over. Having crappy pictures as the only way to share how awesome your trip was is an absolute shame. I see many people today having a DSLR camera. I have one back home but choose to leave it for a few reasons: A DSLR is complicated to use and as usually poor auto mode It’s bulky and takes a lot of space It takes... read more »

Penang and Langkawi
Malaysia
The north west of Malaysia has two well known islands, usually on the route of most backpackers: Penang and Langkawi. Each has its own style. I arrived in Penang via Butterworth after a 7h train ride. It’s longer than taking the bus but I usually prefer the train, the ride is smoother and there’s more space for the legs. It gives me time to work a little bit ;) Georgetown is much more develo... read more »

Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur is my first stop on my way to Beijing, the plan being to reach it in about 5 months only using overland transportation. The train from Singapore is nice but last around 6 hours. KL is famous for its Petronas Twin Towers which were the highest in the World for some time (they still claim it’s the highest twin towers in the world, twin being the keyword). They are really impressive,... read more »

Art of the Brick Exhibition
Singapore
The Art of the Brick is an exhibition of sculptures entirely made of LEGOs. The artist, Nathan Sawaya, has some beautiful creations, some being very insightful or personal. Being a big fan of LEGO myself, I really loved it. However, no need to like bricks to enjoy this exhibit as the sculptures are all very interesting. The Art of the Brick is currently showing in Singapore but touring worldw... read more »

Back to the Future in Singapore
Singapore
After a month in India arriving in Singapore was like jumping in the future. The country is one of the richest, cleanest and modern in the world. The island being quite small, skyscrapers are the only way to accommodate the 5 millions people living there, thus making the Singapore’s skyline very impressive. Nonetheless, the city has a lot of vegetation which makes it nice to walk around. Sin... read more »

Delhi and Recap of India
India
Arriving in a Northen Indian city is always kind of a challenge. You are immediately surrounded by people trying to sell you something and taxi or rickshaw drivers. Jaisalmer was the worst but Delhi is not far behind. We got out of the station in search for a rickshaw to our booked hotel. Fortunately, we had stopped in Delhi 2 weeks before on our way to Varanasi so we knew where the hotel was ... read more »

Bad Luck in Jaisalmer
India
Up to Jaisalmer we were always lucky. None of us became sick, the weather was always nice, we didn’t get scammed, we haven’t missed any flights, buses or trains or any other travel annoyances. Things got a little less fun for me in the Golden City. Jaisalmer is located in the Thar Desert, 100km from the Pakistan border. It is famous for its fort, a still inhabited sandstone castle. You reach ... read more »

Ziplining in Front of Mehrangarh Fort
India
Mehrangarh is the famous fort of Jodhpur, the blue city and the gate to the Thar desert. The Fort is an imposing and beautiful structure built on top of a hill. The museum inside has some interesting pieces. The work that has been put in some rooms and in carving the stones of outside walls is quite impressive. The city in itself is a maze of (dirty) narrow streets with blue houses and shops ... read more »
